New to Original Medicare? You probably have a lot of questions. We can help you get enrolled into Original Medicare, avoid any penalties and help you understand the 4 Parts of Medicare. Once you are enrolled in Original Medicare we will help you figure out what insurance options will best fit your needs.
Do you have a group coverage plan currently - through your own work or perhaps your spouse? Maybe it's most cost effective to stay on your group plan or maybe it's not. It all depends on what your coverage is giving you and how much you are paying for the coverage. Once you turn 65 years of age; you must have credible drug coverage or you will be penalized in the future if you go without credible coverage. And please note; Cobra is not considered credible coverage in place of Medicare.
If you come onto Medicare before 65 years of age; you will not receive all the flyers and information overload as a person turning 65 – but the same rules apply.
If you are getting ready for your appointment to visit the local social security office; give us a call so we can send you the forms you will need to enroll into Medicare Part B after you turn 65 years old. These forms must be signed by your employer to prove your history of credible coverage and then returned to your local social security office; let us save you a trip – give us a call before you go.
Medicare is different than Medicaid
Medicare and Medicaid are different programs. Medicare is the Federal Government insurance for people 65 and over or younger disabled. Medicaid is financial and/or healthcare assistance for low-income individuals or families – at any age. Some people on Medicare do qualify for Medicaid. There are a couple of important programs available in each state for people who have Medicare and qualify for Medicaid. Medicare Savings Program is for people on Medicare and have an income that falls below a certain threshold. When qualified for this program the state you live in will cover your Original Medicare Part B premium and sometimes the deductibles and co-pays. The other program available for low income folks is the Extra Help Program or Limited Income Subsidy, (LIS). This program is a subsidy supported by the Federal Government and will help with the costs of medications, both generic and brand name drugs & with the monthly premiums and deductibles. There are 4 levels of help available.
For more information regarding these programs; give us a call and see if you qualify. We can help you get enrolled in the programs depending on your income level.
